Moderation 2011
As you will be aware, 2010 was the first time all Schools were moderated external to the cluster group workshops. This provided some invaluable information as to the areas where improvements could be made to assessment – both resources and practices; and also identified some good practices happening out there.

Kitchen whizzkid shares her wisdom
Claire Gourley reckons she's just an average teenager. The 17-year-old is still at school and loves playing sport, going to the movies and hanging out with her friends. But there aren't many teens on a crusade to get their peers to learn basic cooking skills, and even fewer who have a cookbook, website and videos devoted to their cause.

Foundation Skills Domain – changed version numbers
Following the review of the Hospitality Operations unit standards in June 2009, all level 1 Hospitality unit standards across domains Accommodation Services, Cookery, Food and Beverage Service, and Hospitality Operations were moved to new domain of Hospitality – Foundation Skills.
This move increased the version numbers for all affected units, but the content remains the same.
KAMAR will automatically report the newest version of a unit, but the previous versions are still valid and correct. Contact your NZQA representative to adjust the version number for reporting.

Cookery Schools 2 Integrated Assessment
In January this year, HSI launched the Integrated Assessment for the Cookery Schools 2 COA (Edition 4). The integrated assessment was designed to reduce the overall amount of individual assessing, paperwork and the need for separate re-assessments.
The combination of recipes selected spreads the requirements for assessment across the dishes and allows for naturally occurring evidence of complimentary units to be collected at the same time.
The main points of difference are less recipes; workplans and theory questions, food safety and knife skills are integrated into the cooking assessments and checklists, and the assessment of range items is spread across recipes.
We have put together some suggestions for ways to use the Edition 4 assessment that will help you adapt it to your needs.
(contact your Schools Advisor for further information if required)
