Certficate of Achievement Packs

In 2011 we are planning to review of all our Certificate of Achievement Packs looking at;
• their names
• unit combinations
• content
• assessment
• activities
• size

Splitting the Current COA Packs

In response to feedback we have split all of the current COAs into two books; one book containing the delivery material and the other book containing the recipes (where included) and the assessment.

Cookery Schools 2

This new assessment is currently being reviewed by a number of teachers around the country so that we can gauge how this format will work in a classroom. This new assessment will form Edition 4 of Cookery Schools 2.

GST on hold at HSI

As we all know, GST increased from 12.5% to 15% on October 1. However, Hospitality Standards Institute CEO Steve Hanrahan says that HSI has decided not to increase the prices of its training courses and resources for the rest of this year. “All fees and costs charged by HSI to its clients will remain the same until the end of December,” he confirmed.

New Zealand Junior Hospitality Challenge (NZJHC) - FINAL

Hawera High School cookery students Talya Clark and Tyrone Thomson and Kamo High School front of house student Matt Genefaas took home the national titles in the final of the HSI Junior Hospitality Challenge.

The Taranaki and Northland hospitality students competed against 26 other students from 15 secondary schools in a series of live cooking and front-of-house events at the New Zealand Culinary Fare held in Auckland in August. The hotly contested final was the culmination of 11 regional events held this year that a record number -around 880 –of students participated in to win their way through to the final. The 2010 JHC Final was hosted by HSI (the Hospitality Standards Institute), along with the NZ Chefs Association and Southern Hospitality.
